Water Crisis
For generations, the town of Togliatti, located south-east of Moscow, has lived to the rhythm of the Russian car factory Avtovaz, 68% owned by French Renault maker. But with the war in Ukraine, international sanctions and the closure of Western companies, workers are worried about their future. France 24 report.
It's been four years since South Africa's tourist capital nearly ran dry, during a drought that left the city limping towards a "Day Zero" when all the pipes would empty. Now water flows liberally -- but not for everyone. In townships and informal settlements, access to water remains patchy.
In today's Perspective we shine the spotlight on the water crisis in South Africa. Late last year, things got so bad that the government even announced the prospect of "Day Zero", a day when the taps in the country's largest city would run dry. But a series of measures jolted residents of Cape Town into action. To talk more about this story we're joined by Christine Colvin, freshwater programmes manager at the World Wide Fund for Nature in South Africa.
Residents of drought-stricken Cape Town face the prospect that their taps will be shut off within months as the three-year-long drought -- the worst in more than a century -- leaves reservoirs empty.
