Chad's junta leader, Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, greets supporters at his final campaign rally ahead of Monday's vote. The elder Deby died in a gunbattle with rebels in 2021 after ruling the country with an iron fist for 30 years. The 40-year-old Mahamat is now favourite for the presidential election. IMAGES
South Africa's electoral commission chief Sy Mamabolo says it is "difficult to call" the election turnout until vote count is completed, adding that it will likely be "well beyond" the 66 percent of the 2019 vote. SOUNDBITE
Turnout in the South African general election is expected to exceed the previous poll in 2019 poll when 66 percent of registered voters took part, electoral commission chief Sy Mamabolo says.
