Israel has delayed the delivery of aid by ground, leading the United States and other countries to turn to airdropping assistance in addition to planning for maritime deliveries. Military aircrafts parachute food aid into Gaza City, a day after 18 people were killed in stampedes or drowned in the Mediterranean Sea as they were rushing towards aid packages. Hamas has urged an end to the airdrops and called for stepped-up road deliveries instead.
