U.S. Joins Other Nations In Grounding 737 MAX Jets After Second Crash


According to Reuters, the United States on Wednesday grounded Boeing Co’s 737 MAX jets, citing new satellite data and evidence from the scene of Sunday’s crash of an Ethiopian Airlines plane that killed 157 people. It was the second time the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has halted flights of a Boeing plane in six years. The FAA said that “The agency made this decision as a result of the data gathering process and new evidence collected at the site and analyzed today."

    Unfortunate news on the travel front. On Friday, United Airlines announced that it would continue to extend its Boeing Co 737 MAX cancellations. The cancellations will now extend through August 3. Reuters reports that the halt has caused 40 or 45 canceled flights, daily. They explain, "United Continental Holdings Inc, operates 14 MAX jets and was due to take delivery of 16 more this year..." The jets were grounded in mid-March 2019, after two fatal crashes.
