David A. Andelman: Look for fireworks at Trump-Macron meeting in Normandy

According to CNN, the word should be prepared to see fireworks between Donald J. Trump and Emmanuel Macron when they meet for the D-Day celebration. The two world leaders who once proclaimed themselves BFFs, now seem barely prepared to share a baguette due to very public criticisms of policies and actions. The two leaders will soon find themselves on the same Normandy beach, celebrating the landing on the shores of Nazi-occupied France and the struggle and sacrifices to restore freedom to France. Will Trump or Macron likely to walk away from their meeting at the shore feeling good about the other? Hard to see how either could manage the kind of tilt that would make that possible, though both are certainly capable of grand gestures of public comity.
