Cruz has faced immense backlash and increasing pressure to resign following his objection. Biden has even criticized the Texas senator and said he should be defeated in 2024. Since November, Cruz has sown doubts into the electoral process, says Business Insider. Cruz's communications director, Lauren Blair Bianchi, also left her job in the wake of the siege.
The First Lady is canceling her first campaign appearance in months because she is not feeling well. According to CNN, Mrs. Trump is still recovering from Covid-19. FLOTUS had been set to join President Trump's rally in Pennsylvania on Tuesday night. The first lady's chief of staff said: that Melania was still suffering "with a lingering cough". Tuesday would have been the first lady's first in-person appearance at a campaign event. There are no plans for Melania to make up for missing the rally, according to a source familiar with her schedule.
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Thursday he spent 7 days in an ICU before recovering from COVID-19. CNN reports Christie issued a statement detailing the severity of his case. It also urged people to take the pandemic seriously. Christie had coached President Donald Trump multiple times for his first debate with Democratic challenger Joe Biden. Christie tested positive a day after Trump announced he and first lady Melania Trump had both tested positive for the virus. Christie sheepishly admitted he'd made a mistake in choosing to believe the White House was a safe place, and regretted not wearing a mask at a Rose Garden event.
