Trump Says Mexico Will Follow Through Will New Deal

Description

Reuters reports U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday said Mexico would enforce a new deal to stem Central American migrants from entering the U.S. The deal was announced on Friday after three days of negotiations in Washington. Mexico made compromises in order to avoid the 5% import tariffs on all Mexican goods that Trump threatened would've started on Monday. “Mexico will try very hard, and if they do that, this will be a very successful agreement between the United States and Mexico,” Trump wrote in a tweet on Saturday morning. Under the deal, Mexico agreed to the expansion of a program in which the U.S. returns asylum-seeking migrants to Mexico to wait out their cases. Mexico also agreed to deploy militarized National Guard forces on its southern border beginning on Monday.
