In Moscow, a high-profile opposition activist has been convicted and sentenced to 25 years in prison, on charges of treason -- the harshest sentence of its kind since Russia invaded Ukraine. Former Russian defence reporter, Ivan Safronov, is sentenced to 22 years on treason charges by a Moscow court. Safronov, 32, appeared handcuffed inside a glass box. Safronov was one of the country's most respected reporters, working for business newspapers Kommersant and Vedomosti. He is accused of divulging state secrets. IMAGES
Ivan Safronov was arrested last week on suspicion of leaking secrets to a NATO country, but the Kremlin says the allegations do not relate to his work as a journalist.
