On Sunday, Pres. Donald Trump blasted his former national security advisor, John Bolton. Bolton was critical of Trump over a NY Times report saying he was considering martial law to overturn the 2020 election. "What would Bolton, one of the dumbest people in Washington, know?" In the NY Times story fmr. NSA advisor Michael Flynn said Trump should utilize the military to "rerun" the presidential election. Bolton called such an action "appalling."
After much ado about mutable microphones and plexiglass shields, President Donald Trump will face opponent Joe Biden on Thursday. CNN reports Trump needs to not just perform well at the presidential debate, he'll need to pull a rabbit out of the hat to swing the race his way. The president trails Biden in both national polls and key swing states that will determine whether he has a path to victory in the Electoral College. Both candidates need to improve their standing with certain groups, though. Biden needs more Hispanic voters, and Trump is struggling to get White suburban women. Biden has been laying low recently, preparing for the event. Trump, meanwhile has been barnstorming across the country in full gripe-and-moan mode. The president spends his rallies insulting scientists and refusing any responsibility for the pandemic, which has created a huge drag on his poll numbers.
On Wednesday, NBC News announced that President Donald Trump will participate in a town hall on Thursday evening. The town hall will take place at the same time as his 2020 Democratic opponent's Joe Biden's on ABC News, which was announced last week. The change of schedule came after Trump refused to take part in a second presidential debate virtually. The commission for Presidential debates suggested a virtual debate out of concern for Trump's health after his coronavirus diagnosis. Both candidates will appear on separate stages at 8 p.m.
On Thursday the Commission of Presidential debates announced that the second debate would be held remotely. The debate was scheduled to take place on October 15 in Miami. Trump's recent COVID-19 had led to speculation that it may be cancelled. Trump said he will not participate in a 'viral' debate. "I'm not gonna waste my time in a virtual debate."
On Wednesday, the Vice Presidential Candidates Kamala Harris and Mike Pence debated. Who won the debate depends on which political party you belong to. Mike Pence insisted that despite 210,000 American deaths to COVID-19 President Trump and his administration have done an excellent job against the virus. HuffPo said Harris scored points by showing Pence's disconnection with the reality of the virus. Harris was also able to make points about health care that Joe Biden was not able to. Pence, for his part, tried to get Harris to answer simple questions about the Green New Deal and stacking of the Supreme Court.
