China's top diplomat Wang Yi, who has just taken over as Beijing's foreign affairs minister following the announcement that his predecessor Qin Gang had been sacked, meets with Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara ahead of an expected meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Over the past four years, both sides have slapped the other with trade tariffs, restricted access for tech companies, journalists and diplomats, shuttered consulates, and squared off militarily in the South China Sea.
