U.N. Chief Urges U.S. & Iran To Avoid 'Any Form Of Escalation' In The Gulf

Description

According to a report by Reuters, on Sunday, United Nations chief Antonio Guterres warned that it is essential to avoid 'any form of escalation' in the Gulf as tensions continue to rise following the downing of an unmanned US drone by Iran earlier this week. While speaking on the sidelines of the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth in Lisbon, Guterres said, “The world cannot afford a major confrontation the Gulf. Everybody must keep nerves of steel.” Reuters reports that the comments by Guterres came one day after U.S. President Donald Trump said that the United States would impose new sanctions on Iran.
