Congress Passes $4.6 Billion Emergency Funding Bill, Waits For Trump Approval


The Senate passed a $4.6 billion emergency funding bill for border security and increased migrant detention center conditions. According to Business Insider, the House of Representatives have also passed the bill. Now the bill will hit the desk of President Donald Trump for approval. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wash pushed by moderated to leave the original bill by the House and take up the Senate vote. Most of the funding, around $3.98 billion, goes towards helping migrants and detention facilities.

    Emergency funding may be on the way to hurricane stricken areas like Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico. According to Reuters, The U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Committee approved $36.5 billion dollars to be used for recovery efforts, due to the recent hurricanes and wildfires. A spokesperson explained that $576.6 million will go to wildfire efforts, $16 billion will be used for the National Flood Insurance program and a provision which helps low-income people get emergency nutrition relief in Puerto Rico. Reuters is unsure when the bill will be voted on by the entire house.

  • Senate Approves $4.6 Billion Border Aid Bill

    According to a report by Reuters, on Wednesday, the US Senate approved a bill that would grant 4.6 billion dollars for border aid in an attempt to stem illegal migration across the country's southern border. The legislation will reportedly need to be reconciled with a separate border aid bill passed by the House of Representatives before it is sent to the president to be signed into law. Reuters reports that the White House has claimed that Trump will veto the House's version, which includes restrictions on US immigration agencies and which does not include extra funding for the Defense Department and Immigration and Customs Enforcement employees.
