Colombia's Miss Universe won't meet with FARC rebels, says she's leaving the peace process with the Marxist group to the government. Sharon Reich reports.
Asuncion, Jul 3 (EFE).- The Paraguayan Tatiana Aquino was crowned Saturday Miss Gordita, after winning a contest that took place the day before virtually due to the pandemic.The virtual contest did not take away the power of the pageant, which is an initiative that turns around the current canon of beauty pageants and gives prominence to plus-sized women. The first Black woman to win the title of Miss Mississippi USA has been crowned Miss USA. Asya Branch, a student at the University of Mississippi and Booneville native, was crowned Miss USA on Monday. According to CNN, Branch will go on to represent the US in the Miss Universe pageant. The beauty pageant was originally scheduled for spring 2020 but, was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Miss Universe Organization that runs Miss USA had to follow coronavirus protocols for the pageant. Contestants wore masks when they were offstage and audience members were told to wear masks indoors.

Fifteen women from across Colombia took part in the ‘Curvy Colombia 2018' beauty contest held in Bogota. The contest celebrates female beauty in all shapes and sizes. The winner of this year Natalia Granados from Quindio expressed her delight in having won the competition and for the opportunity to speak out to all women.
