    Acne scars are not all the same. In fact, Business Insider reports they need to be treated differently. Dermatologist Dr. David Lortscher says there are multiple types of acne scars. They're either depressed (atrophic), or raised (hypertrophic). If left untreated, they will remain. Treatment options for acne scars either dermabrasion, fillers, lasers, and steroid injections. But acne marks are different from acne scars, and are considered hyperpigmentation.

  • Study Uses Diuretic To Treat Acne In Women

    Researchers at the Perelman School of Medicine found that a diuretic medication may help treat acne for women. Their study focused on, Spironolactone, to see if the diuretic could be used as an alternative for antibiotic treatment. Branded under the names Aldactone and CaroSpir, the diuretic is approved to treat high blood pressure, heart failure and conditions that cause people to retain fluid. The study's lead author stated that a safe alternative to oral antibiotics could be beneficial for treating acne, so patients don't develop antibiotic resistance over time. But Spironolactone blocks the effects of male hormones, so it can only treat acne in women.
