The Republican committee of Arizona's Maricopa County is considering censuring the widow of the late GOP Sen. John McCain. Cindy McCain was a prominent Republican supporter of President-elect Joe Biden's 2020 campaign against President Donald Trump. Business Insider reports the committee floated a proposal on Saturday that would have censured her, but the measure did not move forward. The state party confirmed via Twitter that they would vote on a resolution to censure McCain on Jan. 23rd. The Maricopa GOP has already censured former Republican Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona, who endorsed President-elect Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
When Defense Secretary Mark Esper was 'terminated' from his position by President Donald Trump on Monday, lawmakers sounded the alarm. Esper, Trump's fifth defense secretary, was replaced with National Counterterrorism Center Director Christopher Miller in an acting capacity. According to Business Insider, even lawmakers who were previously critical of Esper's policies were taken aback. Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA) said Trump's 'childish' and 'reckless' firing before the projected presidential transition in January could destabilize the Pentagon. The House of Representatives impeached President Donald Trump on Wednesday. Having been previously impeached for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress related to the Ukraine scandal, he's the first president to be impeached twice. Trump was impeached for 'incitement of insurrection' over his role in triggering the violent siege of the US Capitol on January 6. Five people died in the riot. According to Business Insider, ten Republican lawmakers broke ranks to vote with their Democratic colleagues to impeach the president. The final vote was 232 in favor of impeachment and 197 against.

The hotel chain said the decision was the result of last week's siege on the US Capitol by pro-Trump supporters. Marriott is one of the largest US companies to announce it was halting PAC donations to the GOP members who took part in the failed attempt to overturn the election. Companies including Microsoft, Google, GM, and Coca-Cola have condemned the riots as an assault on US democracy.
When President Donald Trump vetoed the $900 billion stimulus bill Tuesday night, he claimed sending $600 checks to working Americans wasn't enough. But according to Business Insider, some Republicans aren't buying it. One anonymous GOP official said Trump was throwing a 'tantrum' in order to punish GOP lawmakers who didn't back his bid to hold onto the presidency. As Trump left to spend the Christmas holidays in his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Wednesday, the White House was fielding furious calls from Republicans. They wanted to know why they were told that Trump supported the bill and asked them to vote for it, only to be abandoned at the last minute.
Georgia election official Gabriel Sterling is the state's voting systems manager. And according to Business Insider, the Republican has had more than enough of President Donald Trump and GOP senators. In a fiery press conference Tuesday, Sterling a Republican, urged them to 'stop inspiring potential acts of violence' against election workers. He said a young contractor with an election vendor, Dominion Voting Systems, has faced threats and harassment for completing basic tech tasks. Sterling tore into the president and local lawmakers for not showing any leadership and of being 'complicit' in the harassment of election workers.
