FCA What's Behind/Episode 2 - Cars undergo extreme heat testing in South Africa

Description

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) gives exclusive insights into the work of the development department with the documentary series" What's Behind. "While the first episode led into the freezing cold of Arjeplog, just north of the Arctic Circle, Episode 2 focuses on heat testing in South Africa. About 15,000 kilometers south of Arjeplog lies the small town of Upington, one of the hottest places in South Africa, in the province of North Cape, South Africa, Botswana and Namibia, where the daily temperatures regularly reach temperatures above 50 degrees in the sun Kalahari Desert is the ideal setting for testing vehicle models on the road to production readiness under extreme conditions. Many heat tests are carried out in southern European regions such as Sicily. But the schedule of development departments does not always fit into the seasons of the northern hemisphere. In such cases, Upington comes into play, a summery furnace almost all year round. FCA engineers also find it an ideal environment in European winter to burden vehicle systems to the limit and beyond.
