US President Donald Trump continues to falsely insist that the election was stolen from him. However, his campaign has lost more than two dozen lawsuits seeking to contest the results and halt ballot counting and certification. According to Business Insider, he's also lost two recounts in Georgia and in Wisconsin. Recently, Trump accused the US Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation of failing to help him uncover systemic voter fraud. But Attorney General Bill Barr begged to differ with Trump on Tuesday, claiming the DOJ and FBI have no evidence of substantial fraud in the 2020 election. Barr's break with Trump is particularly notable given that he has been in lockstep with Trump's narrative for months. Barr pushed a baseless theory that expanding mail voting would lead to foreign countries flooding American voters with counterfeit mail ballots.
President Donald Trump on Sunday pointed the finger of blame for losing to President-elect Joe Biden at two federal agencies. Business Insider reports Trump said in a Fox News interview he believed the FBI and the Department of Justice may have tried to steal the election from him. Business Insider reports there is neither evidence to support such an accusation, nor evidence to support his baseless claims of voter fraud in the election. The president offered no evidence of his claim during his interview on Fox Business News on Sunday. Trump also complained that the agencies weren't doing enough to prove his unsubstantiated claims, saying they were 'missing in action.'
Following the violent attack on the US Capitol, federal officials launched the most extensive counterterrorism probe since September 11, 2001. Meanwhile, the heads of the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security--and the President himself--have remained essentially silent. But according to CNN, the Federal Bureau of Investigation means business. And FBI Director Christopher Wray doesn't mind saying so. Wray says the agency is monitoring 'extensive' online chatter about future protests and warned the men and women who wreaked havoc on the Capitol. The NY Times reports that Pres. Donald Trump has spoken to aides about pardoning himself in the days before he leaves office. The report said Trump has had several conversations about the topic since Election Day. The president has pondered about the legal and political impact if he were to pardon himself. Trump hasn't been shy about giving out executive clemency grants like gifts to his friends. Pardoning himself would be an extraordinary use of the constitutional power. Business Insider said Trump pardoning himself would put the U.S. in uncharted legal territory.
President-elect Joe Biden on Monday said that his transition team is facing ongoing roadblocks. The roadblocks come from President Trump's political leadership at the Pentagon. Several of the blocks also come from the Office of Management and Budget, says Business Insider. "Right now, we just aren't getting all the information we need from the outgoing administration in key national security areas." Biden over the past week has repeatedly expressed concern about the lack of access he's received. The shutout follows alongside the SolarWinds hack and amid tensions with Iran.
Business Insider is reporting that President Donald Trump has pardoned his former campaign manager, Paul Manafort. Manafort was investigated by Robert Mueller during his probe into Russia's interference in the 2016 US election. Manafort was convicted of eight counts of tax and bank fraud. Manafort also later pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy and another count of obstruction. A federal judge voided the plea deal after finding that he lied to prosecutors after agreeing to cooperate. Manafort was sentenced last year to 7 1/2 years in prison for his crimes. The Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee concluded that he represents a "grave counterintelligence threat" to the US.
