Essential safety elements that are also a key design aspect of every model, headlights are to a car as eyes are to a face. More than three years of close collaboration between designers and engineers go into creating the lights of a car. In SEAT’s light tunnel, these specialists carry out all the necessary tests and verifications on headlights and taillights in order to achieve the perfect light that delivers greater comfort and safety at the wheel:
SEAT is entering the next phase of its story, bringing new cars, efficient and electrified engines, new standards of connectivity, and greater emphasis on design, starting with the all-new SEAT Leon. The Leon has been a cornerstone of the SEAT range since 1999, accumulating more than 2.2 million sales globally (252,416 in the UK) across three generations of the model, transforming the brand into a key competitor in the UK.The all-new SEAT Leon is the latest vehicle in this lineage – adding connectivity, electrified powertrains, automated safety systems – designed, developed and built at SEAT’s facilities in Martorell, Barcelona. The hatch and Estate sector of the market is increasingly competitive, with new entrants and a move towards larger vehicles; however, the all-new SEAT Leon, with a strong design evolution, greater practicality, connectivity and efficient, electrified powertrains, meets the challenge.
What colour will the next traffic light be if I continue to drive at this speed? The answer to this question no longer depends on driver intuition, but rather on technology. A project led by SEAT, in collaboration with the Spanish Traffic Authority, the Barcelona City Council and ETRA successfully connects vehicles with traffic lights and the traffic control centre so drivers can anticipate their upcoming status. This project also enables information on motorway incidents to get sent directly to vehicles without the need for information panels, bringing cars and infrastructure together via the cloud using cellular technology with latency times of 300 milliseconds.
Clocks have already changed back one hour, and many people are making their commute from work to home when the sun has already gone down. Despite there being less road traffic at night, this is when 30% of all accidents take place in Europe. In situations of poor visibility, it is important to know how to use your car’s lights. Maite París, who is in charge of Headlamps at SEAT, explains how to use them effectively:
