  • EC for Jobs and Social Rights: Spanish labor reform goes in the right direction

Brussels, May 6 (EFE).- The decision of the Spanish Government to approve this year a new labor framework to be in force in 2022 and thus support the creation of quality jobs "goes in the right direction" said the European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit.SOUNDBITES OF NICOLAS SCHMIT, EUROPEAN COMMISSIONER FOR JOBS AND SOCIAL RIGHTS, IN FRENCH.TRANSLATION:1- "My message is that we must make the Porto summit a success for the future. I believe that we now have the opportunity to strongly reaffirm Europe's social commitment in very exceptional circumstances."2- "It must be a message about social Europe, about the relaunch of our economies, and about more social justice in that recovery."3- "A real political will is needed to bring about this change towards a just transition, towards an economic recovery that must also be socially just.I believe that the Porto summit is a key moment to underline that the challenges before us are economic and social. I believe that from Porto there should be a road map and the road map is largely our action plan based on social rights. Of course, we cannot foresee what is going to happen in two, three, or five years, nor could we foresee the current way of life. "4- "I think that for the whole of Europe as a whole and all the Member States it would be a danger if the implementation of the relaunch plan now takes too long".5- "These systems have prevented a massive increase in unemployment. If it had not been started, there would have been millions of unemployed in Europe, millions of unemployed everywhere, in Spain and also many other countries."6- "We must promote certain mobility so that once the partial unemployment system is withdrawn we do not find ourselves with long-term structural unemployment. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust and at the same time preserve and orient towards new jobs."
