Europe unveils its next-generation combat jet at the opening of the Paris Air Show in front of defence ministers as well as French president Emmanuel Macron. The new jet is part of a broader push to unify Europe's military might and reduce its reliance on US equipment, and the project will also include drones and cruise missiles. IMAGES

  • Formula 1 Race Car Takes On Fighter Jet in Epic Drag Race

    One of the most epic drag races ever took place at the 2017 MAKS Air Show in Russia on Saturday - pitting a MIG-29UB fighter jet against a Formula 1 race car. The Formula 1 vehicle took the lead in the beginning but the MIG's engines warmed up quickly and the jet quickly overtook the race car before going airborn. The action took place on the grounds of the Zhukovsky airfield outside Moscow, and featured some of the world's fastest four-wheeled vehicles racing different aircraft on the race track in a mini event called the Festival of Speed.

  • New Military Fighter Jets Roar Through the Skies at MAKS 2017 Air Show

    The air show, organised by both the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Rostec State Corporation, involved Russian helicopters such as the Mi-26, Mi-35, Ka-52 models, as well as aircraft such as the Aermacchi MB-339s, T-50 and Sukhoi Su-34. The event, taking place from July 18-23, is set to feature some 84 aircraft from eight airborne crews performing over the course of the event, in which more than 770 companies representing 30 countries will participate.
