President Donald Trump is expected to lift coronavirus-related travel restrictions. It is believed he will do so starting on January 26th. This is nearly a week after he leaves office, a White House official said Monday. Officials said Trump is expected to lift restrictions that cover much of Europe and Brazil. President-elect Joe Biden is set to take over the presidency on Wednesday. It's not clear if Biden would reverse Trump's expected order, reports CNN.
President-elect Joe Biden has beaten President Donald Trump in Arizona's 2020 presidential election. That's according to Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, who made the announcement on Monday. Business Insider reports that Hobbs stressed the legitimacy of the count in her statement. This election was conducted with transparency, accuracy and fairness, in accordance with Arizona's laws and elections procedures, despite numerous unfounded claims to the contrary. South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham has been a staunch ally of President Donald Trump over the years. He's also inserted himself into the Georgia state election process, in an effort to investigate possible voter fraud. Nevertheless, Graham said on Wednesday said that President-elect Joe Biden should begin receiving intelligence briefings. To date, Biden has not received any briefings, as Trump refuses to concede and the GSA has refused to issue the necessary letter of ascertainment. Business Insider reports Graham has backed Trump's legal efforts, despite there being no evidence of widespread voter fraud.
Georgia's Republican top election official Brad Raffensperger says he believes President Trump's attacks on mail voting suppressed his own base. In fact, Raffensperger says Trump's baseless claims that mail voting is untrustworthy and fraudulent cost him the state. According to Business Insider, 24,000 Republicans who voted by mail in the state's June 9 primary elections did not vote at all in the general election. While Trump outperformed the polls in many states, he lost the key battleground states of Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, in addition to Georgia. What's more, an even higher number of Georgia Democrats who voted in the primaries stayed home for the general. Trump was the first Republican presidential nominee to lose Georgia since George H.W. Bush in 1992.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday offered his congratulations for holding 'free and fair elections.' However, he didn't offer them towards his own country. Nor has he recognized President-elect Joe Biden as the winner. Instead, Business Insider reports Pompeo congratulated Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves on his reelection in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Pompeo on Friday left Washington for a 10-day trip to seven countries with leaders that have congratulated Biden on his 2020 victory. Countries across the globe have congratulated Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. But St. Vincent and the Grenadines has not.
Lawyers for the Trump campaign have dropped the Arizona lawsuit that sought a review of all ballots cast on Election Day. The decision to abandon the suit came after finding Biden's margin of victory could not be overcome. According to CNN, Trump lawyers filed the lawsuit on Saturday alleging some voters were confused on Election Day. According to the suit confused voters thought their votes were not counted. They also thought vote tabulation machines classified their ballots as overvotes. They were seeking a hand review of any ballots flagged by the machine as overvotes. Lawyers and the Secretary of State filed papers showing the difference in votes is too large to overcome. The difference between Biden and Trump is 11,414 with 10,315 ballots left to be counted.
