Long-distance couples forced to Netflix and chill alone may soon have an alternate way to be with their loved ones thanks to a new robot created by scientists at Tyumen State University. The robot, called Avatar-S, is remotely controlled by a user through sensors which transmit all sorts of data. Avatar-S users put on a special helmet that transmits sound and 3D images from the robot's camera and microphone and special gloves which send tactile sensations gathered from touch sensors.
They say that we know more about the infinite expanse of the cosmos than we know about our own oceans. Well one new Russian underwater drone called the Glider 2.0 might be able to close the gap. The 8 foot long autonomous underwater robot was tested outside St. Petersburg in the Leningrad Oblast on Wednesday. However, the military has also taken note of his modern day robotic Jacques Cousteau. The torpedo-like Glider 2.0 can operate completely autonomously, has stealth capabilities, and can stay in the sea for up to six months at a time between refueling and service. This makes it ideal for military purposes, including surveillance and reconnaissance. In essence, the Glider 2.0 will make an excellent underwater spy. A new modification of the Glider is already being worked on. Developers are planning on increasing its speed and equipping it with a folding water propeller.

Engineers in Osaka, led by lead designer Hajime Sakamoto, have finally finished a massive operational humanoid robot with a built-in cockpit into which the driver of the robot can climb and direct the movements of the metal behemoth after 6 years of construction.
Visitors to the Tokyo Robot Center Showroom on Tokyo's Odaiba Island watched as a DuAro dual-armed SCARA robot made traditional Japanese nigiri sushi as part of a project launched by Kawasaki Heavy Industries. The robot gracefully placed the fish toppings on little balls of rice while explaining every movement with audio and text appearing on the robot's 'face', which consisted of a mouth, nose, and big black eyes animated on a screen in between the two arms. The chef-bot was featured at the newly opened 'Kawasaki Robostage', a location open to the public designed to demonstrate the future of coexistence between humans and robots. It's part of a larger initiative from the Japanese government called 'Robot Strategy', which aims to introduce more widespread robot usage at every level of society. Robot Strategy has a dual purpose - to help manage the effects of a rapidly aging society by filling in for jobs usually handled by young people and to make Japan a global center for robotics innovation in order to serve the demands of the global economy of the future.
