A baby elephant trapped in a well in southern India has been rescued with the help of a digging machine and local villagers. Victoria Walker reports.

    This poor and clumsy young elephant fell down a 70-foot-deep well in southern India and would likely have died there if it weren't for the brave effort of rescue workers. The elephant calf alerted a nearby forest patrol to her plight by trumpeting anguished cries for help. The forest workers followed the sound and arrived to the well to find the animal shivering in fright. They called in a team of rescue workers to help lift the large animal to safety.
