Three years after becoming what many regard as the ground zero of the pandemic, the Chinese city of Wuhan is returning to normal but caution remains as COVID cases rise
After effectively revoking its zero-COVID policy, China is facing a pandemic surge that's becoming ever more difficult to monitor and control
The number of newly reported Covid cases have dropped to their lowest level since March 2020, the World Health Organization said Wednesday, urging the world to seize the opportunity to end the pandemic. "We have never been in a better position to end the pandemic. We are not there yet, but the end is in sight," WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters.
Beijing on Tuesday launched mass coronavirus testing for nearly all its 21 million residents, as fears grew that the Chinese capital may be placed under a strict lockdown like Shanghai.
The major Chinese financial centre of Shanghai extended restrictions on transportation on Tuesday after a day of intensive city-wide testing saw new cases surge to more than 13,000, with no end to the lockdown yet in sight.
