Reuters photojournalist Jonathan Ernst captured a striking photo of former President Barack Obama passing on the torch of national office to newly sworn-in Vice President Kamala Harris. Like Obama 12 years ago today, Harris, who is of Jamaican and Indian heritage, made history when she was sworn in as the first female, Black, and Asian vice president.
Over the weekend, Michelle Obama celebrated her 57th turn around the sun as fans from all over rushed to social media to send her some birthday love. The Capricorn queen took to Instagram to thanks all the well-wishers and shared a selfie showcasing her beautiful natural hair. In the caption, she encourages fans to lead with care for themselves and others. "I know this past year has been difficult for us all on so many levels," the caption reads. Former President Barack Obama has stated that Trump is responsible for the coup of the Capitol. Trump's relentless lies on the 2020 election incited violence and inspired the insurgency. "History will rightly remember today's violence at the Capitol, incited by a sitting president who has continued to baselessly lie about the outcome of a lawful election, as a moment of great dishonor and shame for our nation," Obama said. Obama called on Republicans to cease their support for Trump's effort to overturn the 2020 election result. He added that they must "choose America" according to Business Insider.
President Donald Trump has routinely lambasted the media as a whole for peddling 'fake news.' However, Business Insider reports Trump has now begun to single out glossy US magazines specifically. That's because while he's been in office, not one has offered his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, a single cover shoot. Friday, Trump retweeted a Breitbart post that said 'elitist snobs in the fashion press' were snubbing the 'most elegant First Lady in American history.' Trump fans have long noticed and lamented the absence of the First Lady from US newsstands. They've often accused the US press of revealing their liberal bias by granting former Michelle Obama 12 cover shoots during her time as First Lady.
