Description

New York (US), Sep 10 (EFE / EPA), (Camera: Alba Vigaray).- The auction house Sotheby's will put on sale net month in Hong Kong an "extremely rare" 102-carat diamond, which is expected to fetch up to $30 million. In 2015, Sotheby's sold another 100-carat emerald-cut diamond at auction in New York for $ 22 million.FOOTAGE OF THE DIAMOND. SOUNDBITES OF QUIG BRUNNING, JEWELRY SPECIALIST at SOTHEBY'S:"This is a very important 102-carat diamond since they are not many diamonds of more than 100 carats in the market. Its quality is also very good. It has the best colour and it hasn't any inclusion. We can say that it's the perfect diamond.""There is not a reserve price and there is not an estimated price. We want the market to decide the price of the diamond. We are confident in the existent market because there is huge international interest in jewels and important stones."

This dazzling and breathtaking precious stone is called the Pink Star Diamond, and it may well prove to be the world's most expensive cut diamond after it goes up for auction. The natural diamond was initially mined by diamond giant De Beers in Botswana and 1999 and weighed an astounding 132.5 carats when it first came out of the ground. However, it is not even close to the largest gem quality rough diamond. That award goes to the Cullinan Diamond, which weighed over 3100 carats when first mined in 1905. Although the Pink Star is set to be the most valuable cut diamond ever sold at auction, two other diamonds still have a higher estimated value: the De Beers Centenary Diamond, with an estimated value of $100 millions and the Hope Diamond, estimated at $350 million.
