Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas plans to attend President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration. This comes after weeks of elevating misinformation about the election results. Cruz has faced immense backlash and increasing pressure to resign following his objection. Biden has even criticized the Texas senator and said he should be defeated in 2024. Since November, Cruz has sown doubts into the electoral process, says Business Insider. Cruz's communications director, Lauren Blair Bianchi, also left her job in the wake of the siege.
Clay Clark is a podcast host and ardent supporter of President Donald Trump. Speaking at a rally held Tuesday in Washington, DC, Clark apparently thought having a 'mass-spreader event' was a good thing. According to HuffPost, Clark told attendees at the event in Freedom Plaza that COVID-19 was a hoax. He then invited them hug each other. Turn to the person next to you and give them a hug, someone you don’t know. Go hug somebody. Go ahead and spread it out, mass spreader. It’s a mass-spreader event! Rumors have been flying about what, if anything, President Donald Trump will do during the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden. According to Business Insider, one such story making the rounds is that Trump will visit his Turnberry golf resort in Scotland. In fact, a Scottish newspaper reported Sunday that a US military plane sometimes used by Trump is scheduled to arrive at an airport near the resort. But on Tuesday, Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon put an end to such speculation. Sturgeon said the country's national lockdown, which includes a prohibition on non-essential travel, applies to Trump as well.
President Donald Trump's next residence after he departs the White House is his members-only club Mar-a-Lago. As Trump played golf and dithered over whether to sign the most recent coronavirus relief bill, he also inspected the ongoing renovations to his Florida resort. And according to CNN, POTUS was unhappy with the changes to his private quarters--many of which were overseen by his wife, first lady Melania Trump. Sources say Trump had many 'loud conversations' with others about the changes and ordered some new pieces of furniture to be removed immediately. One source at the club said Trump is spending more time than usual behind closed doors and not mingling as much with club members. The vibe is off.
First lady Melania Trump wanted to spread some seasonal cheer to sick children on Tuesday when she visited the Children's National Hospital. CNN reports she continued her annual tradition of visiting them, despite the coronavirus pandemic and record cases in Washington, DC. However, Mrs. Trump also broke the hospital's stated mask policy when she removed her mask to read a holiday book to children. While she arrived in the hospital's main atrium wearing a mask, she removed it when she took her seat in front of a tree. She did practice social distancing. However, the hospital's policy specifically requires all visitors to wear a mask.
