The mobility of the future is being powered by electric wheels. A good charging infrastructure is crucial for popularising electric cars. And so is knowing which type of charging is the most appropriate according to the characteristics of the vehicle and the time and place of charging. Electric vehicle charging can be confusing, but it’s easier than it seems once you become familiar with some of the concepts. With this in mind, an expert from SEAT S.A. explains in detail the different charging modes of the future.If you have a plug-in hybrid car or small electric vehicle at home, you can leave it charging overnight in the garage with a type 2 slow charger. With this option, the vehicle is connected to the electrical network via an adapter that plugs into a domestic socket (Schuko type) to ensure safe charging. In this mode, (for a capacity of 3.6 kW) the battery in a hybrid takes between 3 and 4 hours to charge from 0 to 100% and an average of 16 hours in an electric, depending on the power, the cable and the capacity of the battery. However, in the case of a considerably long-range 100% electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid, like the SEAT Tarraco e-HYBRID, the most convenient option is the type 3 semi-fast charging mode.
ŠKODA AUTO has replaced its classic equipment lines with Design Selections for the interior of the all-electric ŠKODA ENYAQ iV. The Czech car manufacturer combines wool with recycled polyester from disposable PET-bottles for the seat covers of the Design Selection LODGE. In collaboration with suppliers and the scientific community, the company is working on sustainably produced, recyclable and durable materials for use in series production. In the future, ŠKODA AUTO’s procurement processes will place even more emphasis on sustainability and the circular economy along the entire value chain.

Since its creation in 1999, the SEAT Leon has always excelled in lighting. Each of its four generations has been ahead of its time, incorporating the most cutting-edge technology of the moment in a process of constant updating. “The Leon has always been a benchmark, not only in SEAT, but in the compact segment as well. It has always incorporated the most efficient and powerful light sources to guarantee the safest night-time driving” explains Magnolia Paredes, head of Electronic Development and Validation in SEAT’s Lighting Department. She has been with the company for 20 years, practically the same number of years that the Leon has been lighting the way.
2020 comes to and end and, despite the circumstances, it has been a year of celebrations for SEAT as the company celebrated its 70th anniversary. From the 9th of May 1950 until today, the brand that put Spain on wheels and democratised mobility has undergone a profound transformation and has demonstrated a constant capacity for reinvention.Over the past 70 years, the carmaker has launched a total of 75 models, including different versions and generations, among which some major ones that have marked a turning point. Starting in 1953 with the SEAT 1400, the first car manufactured by the company, or with the legendary SEAT 600, which was presented in 1957 and soon became a symbol of freedom and mobility. In 1984 the first SEAT Ibiza arrived and in 1999 the SEAT Leon, which has been a sales success since its launch. 2016 was also a remarkable year: the company entered the SUV segment with the SEAT Ateca, which was then followed by the SEAT Arona and the SEAT Tarraco.
