This year, deposed Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi cannot attend the 74th Martyrs' Day, as she has been under arrest by the military in a raid on 1 February.The late general Aung San, also known as "Bogyoke" (Major General) was the founder of Myanmar's military - the Tatmadaw - and the main actor in securing the country's independence from Britain, which had ruled Myanmar since 1824.
