Houston, Jun 9 (EFE/EPA).- Family members, friends and community and political leaders called for justice and systemic change here Tuesday at the hometown private funeral for George Floyd, an African-American man who died late last month in Minneapolis, Minnesota, while in police custody.A total of 500 people invited by Floyd's family - all of whom were wearing masks - attended the ceremony at Houston's 2,000-seat The Fountain of Praise church, which was only one-fourth full due to coronavirus social-distancing restrictions. The service was broadcast live by major television networks in the United States and came a day after more than 6,000 people attended a viewing at that same church for Floyd, who died on May 25, and five days after an earlier funeral for him in Minneapolis. New York City, US, June 3 (EFE).- New York City police officials made numerous arrests on Wednesday in several parts of the city, even resorting to force after curfew began, while protests in other United States cities were more peaceful than previous days.Faced with a third night of demonstrations involving thousands of New Yorkers who defied the curfew to protest against the death of African-American George Floyd at the hands of a white police officer in Minneapolis last week, the police Wednesday night decided to act more harshly after giving them an hour's notice when curfew came into force at 8 pm. The White House attacks a devastating special counsel report for making "gratuitous and inappropriate" comments about US President Joe Biden's age and memory. "When the inevitable conclusion is that the facts and the evidence don't support any charges, you're left to wonder why this report spends time making gratuitous and inappropriate criticisms of the president," White House spokesperson Ian Sams tells reporters during a press conference. The White House says US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have spoken about Gaza in their first conversation for nearly a month amid reports of tensions between the leaders. "The two leaders also reviewed the situation in Gaza and the shift to targeted operations that will enable the flow of increasing amounts of humanitarian assistance while keeping the military pressure on Hamas and its leaders," US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby tells reporters in a press briefing.
