Thursday brought an exciting plot twist for Game of Thrones fans in Barcelona as it was revealed that a new GoT exhibit would open in the city. 'Game of Thrones: The Touring Exhibition' was presented by GoT actors Tom Wlaschiha and Ian Beattie. The exhibition will bring a slice of the GoT universe to Barcelona, opening its doors to the public on Saturday. Over 10,000 square feet of the Maritime Museum have been transformed into a space full of props, costumes, and Winterfell set reconstructions.
Builders of the San Giovanni metro station near Rome decided to line the walls with ancient archaeological artefacts found during the construction of Rome's third metro line and put them on public display for commuters and tourists. The many ancient treasures on display include columns, coins, amphorae, statues and pipes dating back to the 1st century AD, the height of the Roman empire. Rome's San Giovanni metro station is still under construction and is scheduled to open in autumn 2017. The San Giovanni station is being tested as metro station and free museum, two other stations may receive the same treatment. It hasn't yet been revealed if guards will be posted near the artifacts to keep troublemakers away, but the San Giovanni metro station is gearing up to be one of the coolest and most original metro stations in the world.
This is a sneak peek at the newest exhibition at the Smithsonian Museum called 'The Art of the Quran', which focuses on displaying Islam's holy book and items of Muslim art and culture to Americans to bridge cultures. The exhibition was organised by the Sackler Gallery in collaboration with the Museum of Turkish Islamic Arts in Istanbul. It features more than 60 of the most important and rarest Quran manuscripts ever produced in Turkey, Iran and Afghanistan, some of which were produced shortly after the Prophet Mohammed died some 1,300 years ago. The exhibition showcases Qurans of different origins, formats and styles, some massive and larger than life while others are ornately decorated, showing the wide range of Islamic art. These manuscripts were originally created for some of the most powerful rulers of the Islamic World, who empires spanned all of the Middle East, parts of India, North Africa, and even parts of Europe. The Art of the Quran is the first major US exhibition of early handwritten Quran manuscripts and the first time this unique collection has left Turkey. The Art of the Quran will open to the public on Saturday, October 22nd.
