"The French pair of Raphael Astier and Frédéric Vauclaire, in the Abarth 124 rally belonging to Team Milano Racing, have won the FIA R-GT world championship with a race to spare after their victory in the Czech Republic in the Barum Czech Rally Zlìn, the fourth event in the series, also valid for the European Championship. Three wins in the three events where they have taken part - the Tour de Corse, the Rally di Roma Capitale and the Barum Czech Rally Zlìn - have enabled Abarth and the French driver to claim the world title with one race still remaining in the championships season: the Rallye du Valais, to be held in Switzerland from 18 to 20 October. So in just its second season, the Abarth spider has won the most coveted title in the spectacular Gran Turismo class, confirming its status as queen of the category. Abarth 124 rally drivers occupy the top 5 positions in the FIA R-GT Cup rankings. Astier, with a score of 75 points, heads the list of Italians Andrea Nucita (33 points), Andrea Modanesi (30 points), Simone Tempestini (18 points), and French driver Philippe Gache (15 points). What's more, in 2018 the 124 rally has picked up an amazing 26 victories in the Abarth 124 rally Selenia International Challenge, the single-make trophy for Abarth 124 drivers competing in the FIA R-GT Cup, the European Rally Championship and the national championships of Italy, France, Spain, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Romania, Slovenia, Belgium, Austria, Germany and Bulgaria."
In only its second racing season, the Abarth 124 rally has established itself as the king of the R-GT class, recording more than 40 class victories in 12 national championships.Team Milano Racing’s 124 rally, driven by the French pair Raphael Astier and Frédéric Vauclare, secured the FIA R-GT Cup by winning an incredible 4 races out of 5, demonstrating the performance, reliability and development that Abarth has achieved.The Abarth 124 rally also dominated the ranking in this championship with an amazing 6 drivers in the top 6 places in the table. This limited edition will be available in just 695 units throughout the globe.The latest version of this top-of-the-range model is a tribute to Abarth’s racing history. The maximum speed is 225 km/h and the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes place in just 6.7 seconds. It also contains Koni FSD shock absorbers on both axles and a dedicated braking system which includes aluminum Brembo calipers and 4 pistons on the front and 305 mm and 240 mm ventilated discs on the rear.
A competitive grand finale in a showstopper Canary Islands Rally, the last appointment of the FIA ERC European Championship, valid for the Abarth Rally Cup.In the last Abarth Rally Cup’s race the Polish team Dariusz Polonski and Lukasz Sitek is in first place with the Abarth 124 rally of Rallytechnology Team. Behind them stand the Italian Andrea Mabellini and Nicolò Gonella, with the spider of the Bernini Rally team and the Napoca Rally Team’s colours.Even though he was mathematically champion before the start, Andrea Mabellini closed his season with a great performance in the Canary Islands, achieving the second place in a race valid for the single-seated Scorpio’s championship and, thanks to his second place in the ERC2 class - which is a category for the four-wheel drive cars with a turbo engine and the “Gran Turismo” RGT - he closed the season achieving the second place in the ERC2 classification of the European championship.
