Three adorable cheetah cubs socialise for the first time with a dog and an older cub at Cincinnati Zoo
A newborn leopard cub has found an unlikely wet nurse in a golden retriever called Tessy at Sadgorod Zoo in Vladivostok, after he was separated from its mother by zookeepers. Zoo staff said that the leopard's mother has a history of maltreating her cubs, which led to the separate the cub from his birth mom. Although zookeepers attempted to bottle feed the cub in the beginning, they soon found an unlikely candidate to take over providing nourishment for little feline.
Two Far East leopard twins - one black and one spotted - were born in the Taigan zoo in the Crimean city of Belogorsk. The cubs first saw daylight about two weeks ago. According to the zoo, It is unique for such a species to breed in captivity.
Elza the puppy and Astra the lion cub became best friends after being introduced to each other by zookeepers at the Sadgorod Zoo in Russia's Vladivostok to help Astra socialize. Now the two young animals are basically inseparable, spending nearly every waking moment playing and hanging out together. It turns out that the two-month-old girls have quite a bit in common. Besides being roughly the same size and having a similar color fur, the two were born on the same day, sleep on the same pillow, and even eat out of the same food tray.
This trio of adorable newborn tiger cub triplets were filmed for the first time on Tuesday after being born at the Taigan Safari Park in Crimea. The Amur tiger cubs are mother Frosi’s first offspring, and she kept a protective eye on them as visitors were allowed to see them for the first time. According to her keeper, Frosi won’t even let the cubs’ father Felix come near them yet, and is feeding them herself – which is unusual for animals kept in captivity. Over the next two weeks, the cubs will begin to open their eyes and will start to get comfortable with seeing members of the public. Amur tigers were once found throughout the Russian Far East, northern China and the Korean peninsula, but were driven to the brink of extinction by hunting. Russia became the first country in the world to grant the tiger full protection. There were only about 400 Amur tigers in the wild when a census was taken in 2005, and researchers found that the population was declining. However, after a decade of intense conservation efforts, there are now over 550 adult Amur tigers in the wild and the numbers appear to be growing. The Amur tiger has been pushed back from the brink of extinction, for now, but careful conservation efforts must continue to protect this majestic species.
