Rescue crews rush to extinguish the burning wreckage of a car after an Israeli strike targeted and killed a Hamas official in the southern Lebanese city of Saida, according to a Lebanese security source. It is the first strike of its kind in Sidon since the Palestinian militant group launched its October 7 attack on Israel, triggering war in Gaza and prompting its Lebanese ally Hezbollah to begin trading near-daily cross-border fire with the Israeli army in a bid to tie down its troops. According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence, "Turkey carried out air strikes this evening at 23:00 (20:00 GMT) in the regions of Tel Rifat, Cizire and Derik in northern Syria and destroyed 30 targets". Since Sunday evening, Ankara has been carrying out a campaign of drone bombings, which left at least nine people dead on Thursday, against PKK and YPG targets in Syria, in retaliation for the attack that wounded two policemen in Ankara on Sunday.
