  • Trump Threatened To 'Devastate' Turkey Without Informing State Department

President Donald Trump on Sunday threatened to "devastate" Turkey economically. Business Insider reports the president's State Department has said it has no knowledge of such plans. Trump tweeted, "Starting the long overdue pullout from Syria while hitting the little remaining ISIS territorial caliphate hard, and from many directions. Will attack again from existing nearby base if it reforms. Will devastate Turkey economically if they hit Kurds." Turkey considers the Kurds, who are US allies, to be a terrorist group. The US recently attempted to gain assurances from Turkey that the nation would not attack the Kurds in Syria once the US pulls out, but Turkey refused. When asked what Trump meant by economic devastation for Turkey, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told a reporter they'd have to ask Trump. He said, "We've applied sanctions in many places around the world. I assume he's speaking about those kinds of things, but you'd have to ask him."
