European Central Bank President, Christine Lagarde, announces the ECB is lifting its key rates of interest by 75 basis points, leaving them sitting in a range of between 0.75 and 1.5 percent. After an alarming outbreak of a mutant coronavirus, multiple countries have canceled flights from the United Kingdom. According to Business Insider, the move was prompted by fears around the new variant of COVID-19. The mutant coronavirus is believed to be up to 70% more transmissible than the original strain. In order to stop its spread, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that London and surrounding areas would suddenly be plunged into lockdown. Dutch authorities confirmed at least one case of this COVID-19 variant had reached the Netherlands. Flights from the UK to The Netherlands are canceled until January 1st, as are those to Belgium. On Sunday afternoon, Italian foreign minister Luigi di Maio said that the government would be suspending all travel from the UK.
A small American automaker has just secured the title of world's fastest production car. SSC North America announced Monday that their Tuatara hypercar reached an average speed of 316.11 mph. According to CNN, the record-breaking feat came during two dashes outside Las Vegas. The vehicle was tested on a seven-mile stretch of a Nevada highway on Saturday. The car also reached the highest speed ever achieved on a public road, at 331.15 mph. SSC confirmed that two independent witnesses were on-site to verify the world records.

Powerboats sped across the Caribbean Sea last weekend in a blistering pace and the pilots are believed to have set a new Guinness World Record. American speedboat pilots Nigel Hook and Jay Johnson set what they claim to be a new world record, covering the distance from the US island city of Key West to Cuba's Havana in one hour, 18 minutes and three seconds on Thursday. The US duo broke the previous record set by German pilot Roger Kluh in August, who covered the same distance in one hour and 45 minutes. The two pilots are seeking a Guinness World Record recognition for the feat.
