The SEAT Tarraco makes its road debut with camouflage in order to disguise its design lines. Stefan Ilijevic, head of Predevelopment, Patents and Innovation at SEAT, sits behind the wheel of the new model to test all of its features. Living up to its name, Stefan drives the brand’s third SUV on the outskirts of the typical Mediterranean landscape of Tarragona and the following are his initial impressions while at the wheel. Comfort, safety and roominess are just a few of its most important features. The new model demonstrates its versatility on the pavement and on a rocky mountain trail. The SEAT Tarraco is equipped with new assistants, such as the Rollover Assist, for even safer driving.
Another important model: the SEAT Tarraco launched in 2018. To date, 88,820 units of the model have been sold worldwide, the name of which could once be publicly voted on. In addition to its forward-looking design, the SEAT Tarraco is characterized above all by its high level of spaciousness: the SUV can accommodate up to seven people, with the seats folded down there is a trunk volume of up to 1,775 liters. Sporty handling with high cornering precision - this combination is popular. As with the SEAT Ateca, Germany is also the largest market for the SEAT Tarraco: 29,000 units have been sold in this country to date.
SEAT is refreshing its successful Ateca with the introduction of the 2020 version. The revamped vehicle will build on its SUV attributes, adding a refreshed and more emotional appearance both inside and outside, a fully connected user experience, improved levels of safety, comfort and efficiency. The SEAT Ateca is designed and developed in Barcelona, and produced in Kvasiny (Czech Republic), refreshing the line-up of SUVs, alongside the compact Arona and larger Tarraco, in a segment that is growing every year in popularity as customers look for design and function in a single package.
The one millionth SUV was a SEAT Arona – the ultimate bestseller. Produced in Martorell, the urban SUV has become the brand's most popular model since its market launch in 2017 with 481,585 units sold worldwide. Almost 98,000 vehicles have been sold since its debut in Spain, and last year the SEAT Arona was the first SUV to top the list there. The model is characterized above all by its functional design, its young image and the very good price-performance ratio. Added to this are its high dynamics and the smart connectivity and assistance solutions that make it a comfortable, networked and safe vehicle.
The first SUV in the history of the brand was the SEAT Ateca. The compact SUV has now been sold 435,443 times. Its elegant design combined with a high degree of sportiness give it an unmistakable identity, which is underlined once again by its all-wheel drive version 4Drive - one of the most efficient on the market. The model has already been sold more than 108,000 times in Germany and is particularly popular here because of its agile and comfortable handling and its off-road character.
The SUV sensation is continuing full steam ahead. Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) are taking up a larger share of the market year after year. In 2021 they accounted for 46% of car registrations in Europe, 5 percentage points more than the previous year. A clear example of this growth evolution is SEAT’s SUV range. In 2022 it topped the one million mark in terms of sales of its three models just six years after the launch of its first one. Last year, the Arona, Ateca and Tarraco already accounted for 49% of the brand’s global sales, with 192,100 units. Design, versatility and sporty driving play an essential role amongst the reasons for their popularity.
