U.S. Trade Representative Issues Notice On Delay of China Tariff Increase

Description

According to Reuters, the United States Trade Representative’s office has released a notice to delay a scheduled hike in tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods. In it, the agency said it is “no longer appropriate” to raise the rates because of progress in negotiations since December 2018. A tariff increase to 25 percent was initially scheduled for January 1, but after productive conversations with President Xi Jinping, the Trump administration issued a 90-day extension of that deadline.
