Polestar 1 test programme evaluates driver experience

Description

The Polestar 1 verification prototype (VP) testing and evaluation programme continues in the lead-up to production readiness in mid-2019. In addition to crash tests, aerodynamic evaluations and on-road testing, vital areas of assessment are chassis dynamics and the driver experience. For Polestar, performance is about much more than just acceleration. The way Polestar 1 feels to drive and live with is also critical, according to Polestar’s Chief Executive Officer, Thomas Ingenlath.Steering responsiveness and torque vectoring calibration have taken priority in the latest tests, validating the chassis and suspension tuning carried out on earlier prototype cars in 2018.Polestar’s chief test driver, Joakim Rydholm, comments: “Whenever you drive Polestar 1, you should immediately feel like you are in control and that the car is ready to respond to your input, no matter what you want to do. This is a GT that needs to be easy to drive and comfortable in everyday use with its smooth and quiet hybrid drivetrain – but also ready to deliver its thrilling 600 hp and 1,000 Nm performance whenever the driver wants it.”The next prototype phase, which starts early in 2019, includes the very first cars built in the soon-to-be-completed Polestar Production Centre in Chengdu, China. This will be the final prototype series before pre-production cars are built to final specification and quality standards.

The Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team is proud to debut its new challenger for the 2024 season – the AMR24. On a significant day for Aston Martin, the new Vantage road car and Aston Martin Vantage GT3 join the AMR24 marking a trilogy of reveals. In its iconic racing green livery, complete with Aramco title partner branding, the AMR24 represents a strong and exciting evolution from its predecessor which catapulted the team to eight podiums and 280 points in 2023. The AMR24 evolves the same design philosophy but there is minor carryover with the majority of the parts being new for 2024. The continuous refinement of the AMR24 has resulted in a lighter, more aerodynamically efficient race car, designed to operate across a wider range of circuits.

  • Alpine A424, test session Portimao

Alpine Endurance Team headed to Portimão this week for its final test session of the year ahead of its 2024 Hypercar programme. This was the first test session with two Alpine A424s and the six recently announced official drivers. After its windtunnel tests in the USA in November, the A424 continued its homologation process in Switzerland. The homologation process is currently being completed at the FIA’s Valleiry facilities in France. In total: two days of running focused on development with just over 3,000 km covered (1,443 km for #35 and 1,562 km for #36), with no technical problems significant enough to delay the completion of the work schedule. For the first time, the presence of the six drivers in the 2024 line-up allowed the technical teams for the crews to work on the cockpit, refuelling processes, driver changes, pitlane and garage procedures. The two days of testing were an opportunity to develop the homologated aerodynamic package, alternating between short and long runs with each driver. The aim was to improve the car and engine setups but also the interaction of the various systems as well as energy and fuel management.
