Chinese farmers incubate 10 tonnes of grasshoppers as greens are in trend for protein

Description

Grasshopper breeding farms have become a fast-growing economy in China. Grasshopper 'breeders' in Pingdingshan grow up to 10 tonnes of green insects every year with 21 sheds, covering an area of 20,000 square metres. The farmers profit from selling the grasshoppers in the food industry as the grigs are now in huge demand for being high in protein and low in fat. With the grasshopper breeding business flourishing, farms that breed insects are increasing. More than 1,000 grasshopper farms exist at the moment in China.
