Trying to cut the fat from the household budget is nothing new, and one strategy is to 'cut the cord' by getting rid of cable TV. But unless you can get your TV from a roof antenna, you'll have to have cheap, fast internet to stream your programs. According to TechNewsWorld.com, cutting the cable TV cord is a mixed bag for most people. You'll probably just lower your TV bill by streaming, rather than saving a ton of money. On the other hand, you can bounce from free trials to low-cost offerings to find the ideal solution. Most streaming services don't require contracts, so you can explore different options depending on your viewing habits and your family's needs.
A federal judge has ruled 114,000 homeless students in New York City are to have their day in court. Business Insider reports a judge has allowed a class-action lawsuit to advance to expedite the roll-out of WiFi to homeless shelters across the city. The suit was filed when homeless students were unable to access the internet in homeless shelters during periods of remote learning this year. Business Insider reports the city provided students with iPads with unlimited cellular data, but many have had trouble getting proper cell service. US District Judge Alison Nathan wrote in her opinion that homeless students are deprived of their right to education without internet connectivity. For as long as that deprivation exists, the City bears a duty...to furnish them with the means necessary for them to attend school. US District Judge Alison Nathan
Just because remote learning is widely in use across the US, that doesn't mean it's easy for children--or their parents. HuffPost reports introverted students face even more challenges with remote learning besides nabbing a strong wifi signal. If you find your child is holding back in class--or avoiding classes altogether--experts say it's best to start by gently asking them what's going on. Perhaps they're worried about what their peers think of the home, or by how they look on camera, or that they can't get to grips with the software. Remind them that backgrounds can be tidied, hair can be cut, seating and lighting can be improved, and software tutorials can be worked through. Whatever the problem, work to reassure the child that such feelings are normal and that there are solutions to every problem.
