In South Africa, the Eastern Cape province is seeing repeated droughts since 2016.
It's been four years since South Africa's tourist capital nearly ran dry, during a drought that left the city limping towards a "Day Zero" when all the pipes would empty. Now water flows liberally -- but not for everyone. In townships and informal settlements, access to water remains patchy.
During the region's worst drought in over a century, Cape Town's water restrictions have been reduced to 50 litres per person per day, forcing residents to find alternative water resources in an attempt to lower their daily consumption.
Residents of drought-stricken Cape Town face the prospect that their taps will be shut off within months as the three-year-long drought -- the worst in more than a century -- leaves reservoirs empty.
