Mandalay, May 26 (EFE/EPA).- At least 73 children have died in Myanmar due to brutal repression by the security forces against any hint of opposition after the military coup on Feb. 1, the dissident National Unity Government (NUG) denounced on Wednesday.The deaths of 63 boys, nine girls and one minor of unidentified gender were recorded between Feb. 15 and May 15, said the self-proclaimed democratic government, made up of activists and politicians elected during the November elections, whose result is not recognized by the Myanmar military. Mandalay, Apr 15 (EFE/EPA).- Myanmar security forces opened fire Thursday at a demonstration of medical personnel in Mandalay and detained about 20 people in a new day of protests against the military junta that seized power during the Feb. 1 coup, the local press reported. According to data from the Association for the Assistance of Political Prisoners, at least 714 people have died due to the military repression, while more than 3,000 people have been detained, including the leader of the deposed government Aung San Suu Kyi.The Myanmar Army justifies the coup on alleged electoral fraud in November’s elections, in which Suu Kyi's party won a landslide victory, as it did in 2015, with the endorsement of international observers. Mandalay, Apr 13 (EFE/EPA) .- Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Mandalay again on Monday despite the military junta crackdown. The civilian death toll from the junta's brutal crackdown on unarmed dissent climbed past 700 at the weekend but protests continue to defy the military throughout the country. The Army justifies the coup due on an alleged electoral fraud in November’s general elections, in which the party led by the deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi won a landslide during polls considered legitimate by international observers. Mandalay, Apr 11 (EFE/EPA).- Myanmar security forces have killed at least 82 anti-coup protesters in a daylong violent crackdown in Bago city near Yangon, a monitoring group said Sunday.The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) said that Bago became a "killing field" Friday in a “dawn to dusk" clampdown on the protesters in the city, about 70 km (43 miles) northeast of Yangon.The group warned that the casualty figures were "likely much higher."
