Rio de Janeiro Civil Police chief Fernando Veloso announced during a press conference, Thursday, that claims made by four US Olympic swimmers saying they had been robbed at gun point were false, stating that they had fabricated large parts of the story.
Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger, two Olympic swimmers from the US national team who competed at the Rio Olympics were removed by security from a flight headed back to the US on Wednesday evening and were briefly detained by authorities for questioning.
The last athletes are arriving to Rio de Janeiro, just days before the Games start. Among them the tennis playing sisters Serena and Venus Williams.
Rio De Janeiro has connected the city thanks to the Olympics, and invested in public transport as well as a new modern airport extension.
