  • 'Window narrowing' to meet 1.5C goal: senior UN climate official

A UN report on climate change shows that the window to meet the goal of 1.5-degree Celsius global warming limit is narrowing, a senior UN climate official says. The report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change "sets out in very, very stark terms where we are, but it also signals that there is still an opportunity with significant global effort to meet that 1.5 goal," says Simon Stiell, head of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). • This is the Nikola One - A Hydrogen-Powered Semi with Zero Emissions

Nikola Motors unveiled its zero-emission hydrogen-powered electric semi-truck called the Nikola One, which aims to compete against the largest truck manufacturers in the world and fight climate change at the same time. Unveiled at the company's headquarters in Salt Lake City, the class 8 semi-truck will be powered by both lithium batteries and hydrogen fuel cells which generate over 1,000 horsepower and 2,000 ft-lbs of torque and enable the truck to travel up to 1,200 miles on a single charge. Leasing the Nikola One will cost customers between $5,000 and $7,000 per month for a 72 month term and includes unlimited hydrogen fuel at their network of stations. Nikola Motors have already received pre-orders worth $3 billion and plans to build a network of fuel stations across the US and Canada starting in January 2018.

  • How Droughted-Out Farmers Could Be Saved By The Sun

As climate change drives drought, and the rising global population drives food demand, the world's food security is ever more precarious. But struggling farmers may find relief from the soaring temperatures from the sun itself--and the technology that harnesses its power. HuffPost reports students at the University of Arizona noticed that vegetables grown under the cover of solar panels flourished during the hottest summer on record. The observation provided food for thought for Prof. Greg Barron-Gafford’s research in 'agrivoltaics': growing food and generating solar energy on the same land. The concept could fulfill the need for land on which to build new solar installations while also helping farmers stay afloat. It’s a case where one plus one could equal more than two.
