Images show a hospital in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv plunged into darkness after Russian strikes pound critical infrastructure across the country. Lviv has been left completely without power according to the city's mayor. IMAGES
A missile strike by Russia overnight hit the city centre of Kharkiv, Ukraine´s second largest city, damaging several buildings and water pipes and leaving a large crater in the road. "There is a school here, offices and residential buildings, but there cannot be military objects here because this is the central part of Kharkiv," says Kharkiv mayor Igor Terekhov. A senior UN official condemns Russia for its "appalling assaults" on Ukraine which saw some 158 missiles launched, killing at least 30 people according to Kyiv. "Regrettably, today's appalling assaults were only the latest in a series of escalating attacks by the Russian Federation," says UN assistant secretary-general Mohamed Khiari. SOUNDBITE
Firefighters put out a fire following a Russian drone strike in Ukraine's Kharkiv, which hit civilian infrastructure, including a building of the Kharkiv College of Transport Technology. There was no immediate report of casualties. IMAGES
