To kick off this year's IAA Mobility in Munich, carmakers Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Mini and Smart have unveiled their latest designs and concepts. One of the world's biggest tech and innovation shows of its kind, IAA Mobility officially opens on September 5.
A nebula resembling a horse's head, never-before-seen distant galaxies and "circumstantial evidence" of elusive dark matter: the European Space Agency has released the first images from its Euclid space telescope, illustrating its wide-lens view of the universe. Euclid blasted off in July on the world's first-ever mission aiming to investigate the enduring cosmic mysteries of dark matter and dark energy.
France is not the only European country on full alert regarding mounting violence targeting Jewish communities ... In recent weeks, Germany, which is home to Europe’s third largest Jewish community, is seeing an uptick in anti-Semitic attacks, with some Pro-Palestinian rallies turning violent. Since the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, German authorities and Chancellor Olaf Scholz have underlined that anti-Semitism “has no place in Germany”. For a country responsible for the Holocaust, Israel’s security is state policy. But German Jews are increasingly worried for their safety. In 2021, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko began letting migrants cross his country's border into Poland to retaliate against EU sanctions. Poland strengthened its border controls, but the number of illegal migrant crossings into Germany has been surging in recent months. The Brandenburg region in eastern Germany now finds itself at the crossroads between the Belarus and Balkans migrant routes. Some leaders in Germany are calling for the return of stationary controls in the border region and other eastern German states. The German government says it is considering this option, but local communities say they are overwhelmed. Our correspondents followed a patrol of the federal police in the region.
