California Governor Gavin Newsom said he is considering imposing another lockdown. This lockdown would be a stay-at-home order, according to Business Insider. This move on Newsom's part comes as hospitalizations in the state spike amid COVID-19 surges. About 75% of California's 7,733 ICU beds are occupied. California hospitals could reach 112% of capacity by December 24th. If these trends continue, California will have to take much more dramatic, arguably drastic, actions.
About a week ago, California Governor Gavin Newsom attended a dinner party--with at least a dozen people--at an upscale Napa Valley restaurant. But on Friday, Newsom asked Californians to 'limit interactions to their immediate household.' The state recently surpassed 1 million confirmed cases of COVID-19. According to Business Insider, critics and journalists swiftly slammed and called out the governor's actions as hypocritical. said he 'should have modeled better behavior.'
Gizmodo reports San Francisco and Alameda counties in California have stopped using Verily to test for the novel coronavirus. Google's health-centered sister company launched a $55 million pilot COVID-19 testing program earlier this year to set up mobile and stationary test sites. However, Verily’s services weren’t geared towards filling the needs of communities especially vulnerable to the pandemic. Specifically, the services put people of color, those with low income, and the homeless at a disadvantage for using Verily's site and accessing test results. Another complaint was that Verily reserves the right to use collected data for 'commercial product research and development.' While Verily says strict privacy controls are in place, critics say the system may still violate federal health data privacy laws.

Additionally, Pelosi said Democrats must win back the Senate majority, which Republicans have held since 2014. Meanwhile, Democrats and Republicans continue to clash on a COVID-19 relief package. CNN "State of the Union" host Jake Tapper also asked about what she had to say on President Donald Trump's claims at Thursday's debate that Republicans will take back the house.
Pres. Donald Trump and Dr. Anthony Fauci are on course for another, very public battle. According to CNN, Fauci questioned why Trump thinks mask wearing is weak. Fauci is the world's leading infectious disease specialist. He and the President are arguing as the pandemic begins the feared fall & winter spike. Trump has slammed Fauci repeatedly. Early in the pandemic Fauci said mask wearing was not necessary. "Let's see if we could put this to rest once and for all," Fauci said. "Cloth coverings work."
