France prioritizes vaccinating people in precarious situations

Description

Paris (France), Aug 4 (EFE) .- (Camera: Mario García Sánchez) France has proposed to vaccinate all refugees and asylum seekers in August and faces the objective by handling the burden of bureaucracy and the difficulty that these present.Doctors Without Borders (MSF), one of the NGOs in charge of immunizing this group, considers the plan "very ambitious" given the complication of recruiting volunteers during the summer months.FOOTAGE OF THE VACCINATION CENTRE FOR REFUGEES AND ASYLUM SEEKERS OF DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS IN THE OUTSKIRTS OF PARIS PERIPHERY.SOUNDBITES OF CRISTIANA CASTRO, RESPONSIBLE FOR COVID ACTION IN THE PARIS REGION, AND OF MILOUD JENDLI, REFUGEE.TRANSLATION:1 - "It will not be possible to vaccinate all people in a precarious situation before the end of the summer, because we know that in the month of August it slows down a bit in the associations and structures that have their staff on vacation. We have trouble getting human resources. I think they are trying to maximize capacities to vaccinate everyone, mainly refugees. I think it is very ambitious to say that by the end of the summer everyone will be vaccinated."2 - "(There is a) deep fear of not being able to access public places one day, be it reception centres, day centres or administrative centres. This is not the case at the moment, but people fear that the health pass will be mandatory and that suddenly they won't be able to access those sites that are really important in their day to day."3- "The profile is very varied. There are immigrants who have just arrived, many newcomers; people who are asylum seekers who are trying to get social coverage to which they still do not have access to due to the period of three months, people who do not have social security, who are in an irregular situation, refugees or asylum seekers ".4 - "(Vaccination) is good for everyone".
