In one of the most turbulent editions of the Nürburgring 24 Hours with more than 14 hours of race interruption in dense fog, Audi Sport customer racing thrilled everyone with a strong recovery. However, there was hardly any reward in the end. From 64th place at the start of the race, Audi Sport Team Land fought its way back to the leading group but did not see the finish after an accident by Kelvin van der Linde. The best Audi R8 LMS in the end was fielded by Audi Sport Team Car Collection. From 25th place after an early tire change, the number 2 Audi improved to fifth place.
After the pandemic forced a postponement of the IGTC final race from December 4, 2021, to February 5, 2022, Audi Sport customer racing concluded the 2021 season with another title success: in 2016, 2017 and 2018, Audi Sport was already the best manufacturer in the only global GT3 racing series, and now the company has left four other sports car brands behind by winning the title at Kyalami.
A late rain shower caused a dramatic final phase at the Spa 24 Hours.
Audi presents three new models for the Chinese market at the Auto Shanghai 2021: the Audi A6 e-tron concept, the all-new Audi Q5L and the all-new Audi A7L.
After a break of 5 hours and 45 minutes due to heavy rains, the 71st edition of the Spa 24 Hours was restarted behind the safety car at 11:30 am local time. Four hours before the end of the race, Audi had a promising position in the record field of 72 GT sports cars. The best-placed Audi driver was René Rast in the number 1 car from Audi Sport Team WRT in third place. In eighth position was Belgian Frédéric Vervisch with the number 25 entry from Audi Sport Team Saintéloc. The third Audi R8 LMS in the top ten was the number 10 from Belgian Audi Club Team WRT with Rik Breukers behind the wheel.
